EVS-26: Are Electric Cars Suffering Sophomore Slump?

Greencarreports.com -- Has the electric-car industry passed through its first-year euphoria and entered a sophomore slump?

That’s the question on our mind after dozens of panels, presentations, meetings, and corridor chats at the 26th annual Electric Vehicle Symposium.

While the euphoria of last year's launch of modern plug-in vehicles may have dissipated, the conference seemed less about sophomore slump than about settling in for the long haul.

I don't think I've seen an electric car in real life yet.

Don't need a sticker in a EV to drive in a HOV lane.Yah, I guess it could be a slump. Gas prices goes down and slump happens, then prices goe up and no more slump.

Go electric. EVs will get better and less expensive. Electricity is made in the USA, and imported oil isn't!

Just was at the Detoit Historical Museum yesterday. They had a 1907 Detroit Electric Car Company vehicle on display that could go 100-200 miles per charge of its nickel-iron battery!

I'm glad Van Halen knows exactly what every person in the United States should buy.....

Personally, I thought there was something called free will..... (wow, what a concept).

Considering how new and different they are, they're doing far better than I would have predicted 5 years ago.

Maybe the honey moon is over and people are starting to see what electric vehicles look like first thing in the morning. Many people did not fall for a bunch of short advertisements that extolled the positive aspects of the EV only to find out that they have just as many negative parts. You always have people who get married for the honey moon and then get divorced.

Don't know if it's the lack of enthusiasm, or the lack of product and support on the market.

The credit market needs to rebuild itself --- without all the illegal GOP approved crap -- in order for the entire auto market to really rebound.... EVs and plug-ins included....

Rechargeable batteries are too expensive, don't stay charged long enough, take too long to recharge and need to be replaced too often.

After garnering .001 (00.1%) market share, at least the sophomore slump of this revolution will not be too severe.
