Chicago: Brace for carpocalypse, circle interchange reconstruction coming

GasBuddy Blog -- Dear motorists in Chicago: brace yourself. Illinois Governor Pat Quinn announced yesterday the first step towards bringing us to the brink of an all out disaster- an initial study into the reconstruction of the Circle Interchange.

For motorists unaware of what the Circle Interchange is, it's one of the nation's busiest interchanges, bringing major highway arteries together, linking the suburbs to downtown Chicago. If you've driven near downtown Chicago, odds are you've driven on the pavement before.

The governor announced the massive $40-million study- yes $40 mills for a study- that would be initiated by a joint venture of AECOM and Transystems on everything that will need to be performed before any hard labor begins....

Hard to believe the cost of the study will be $40 million.

I always hated driving through Chicago. One of the worst metro areas I've ever driven through. Sounds like it's gonna get even worse. Glad I don't have to mess with it.

$40 million to study just how they will perform the reconstruction??? Somebody is making a lot of money on this fiasco.

These people need to come down to Dallas, TX to see how all of these complex interchanges are built. That Dallas area has several 4-5 level flyovers and they continue to build more. I'm guessing that someone from TXDOT can show them how we do it down here and save Chicago a lot of money on all their analysis-paralasis.

A similar, though smaller, interchange was built here. There was a vast improvement over the old-fashioned cloverleaf design.

A $40-million study and no new highway or interchange building or laying pavement either? Many other cities and states have experienced the same thing but in much smaller dollar amounts or the size of Barry's Chicago. New roads or bridges and rerouting traffic until the projects are finished. I hope this will improve the cities traffic flow and on to the next project when done.
Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. Consider using other forms of less expensive transportation to lower your cost, if possible!
The price of fuel at the pump is too high!

Demolish the dam thing and bring back the ordinary stop light. Then watch how fast folk will be clammering for efficient high speed rail transportation.
