This Is What Islam Does to You

"I was born in a very typical Sunni Muslim household, not very conservative like the Arabs, but nevertheless religious enough. I was born in Karachi, Pakistan to a very respectable Mohajjir family (mohajjirs are immigrants from India from the time of the partition in 1947). I moved to another Muslim country with my parents when I was just 10 years old and still live there..."

"...I have a friend, a pretty young girl from Morocco who also lives here and works with me. She too has given up Islam recently but she is also very afraid of her life. This is what Islam does to you. When you are in it, your life is nothing but living in the fear of hell, and once you leave it, it is not less than hell because you are constantly scared to lose your life."

Once religion establishes itself firmly enough to become a part of the political fabric, as Christianity did in the Middle Ages, atrocities become commonplace. Even as late as the American Revolution, the penalty for openly declaring oneself to be free of any god belief was, in most places, death. Which is why the freethinkers of the time called themselves "deists".

It was a slow, steady process involving much perseverance and the personal sacrifices of many people over centuries that broke Europe and America free of this slavery. Now we see the process being repeated in the countries where Islam holds a similar hegemony.

Even more worryingly, we also see Europe and America now dishonoring the sacrifices that liberated them by allowing this cancer to grow in the name of "cultural pluralism".

It (religion) is not the repository of morality; to the contrary it is the cesspool from which most of the world's evil arises, and moral people need to be constantly vigilant against its raising its ugly head wherever and whenever it does so.

For an excellent fictionalized telling of that story, see "...But the Girl Didn't Believe It". It's on the Kindle at http://amzn.to/sYMyiB and in paperback at http://bit.ly/uxrown
