Well now.. the 10th of Tishri is upon us. Let's try to cast off all the dross in our lives as we fast in contemplative prayer. Som Kal (may you have an easy fast)

L'Shana Tovah Chaverim! May you all live year of health, happiness, love, wisdom and prosperity.

Yes, after all these years of Jews surviving and thriving, I feel it's safe to say that in G-D's eyes, we are B'shert to this world.

As individuals, we undoubtedly will return to dust. But we, the Jews, are an eternal people. A healthy and prosperous 5767 to all.

nisky, i like to think that's "the jewish way" :-)
always opening your door to others, etc.
growing up in columbus, ohio, i can't remember a shabbat where we didn't have guests either friday night or for lunch after shul on saturday. in the beginning it was the single men who were new to the area after a work relocation, then they came with their girlfriends, turned into fiances and wives, then the whole family!
i got a lot of babysitting business from my mom's cholent :-)

Speaking of "Shofar, so good".. once a long time ago (~'95) I was listening to a Jazz public radio station out of Sheboygan, WI, while driving. It was around the New Year. They played a recording of a jazz trumpeter describing the shofar, and also proceeded to perform the Shofar service. The announcer mentioned the guy's name and said that the tune was called "Shofar, so good".

chaosreins: In our house, that rule applied to all holidays. My grandparents would round up all the Israeli's in Montreal who had no family and they would be at our table. It made for some wonderful rowdy holidays...And to anyone who will be finding themselves in my neck of the woods, let me know and you are always welcome! Shalom and Shanna Tova Ve'Metuka Lekulam!

The tzimmes is done and now cooling. Apple cranberry crisp is in the oven. Hubby made taiglach last night. Younger daughter made honey cake at school. We'll eat well tonight. Shanah Tova, chaverim.

Shanna Tova Lekulam:

Today I will be making Gefilte Fish (Russian style with LOTS of black Pepper) for tomorrow, when I will have 14 over for the second night. I am also baking a pineapple upside down cake, as I gave up trying to bake an edible Lekah (honey) cake. For tonight, since I want to get to synagogue, I am "Cheating" by making a Pot Roast in the Crock Pot and when I get home (I'm leaving early) I'll also make some chicken soup. If I have time, I'm making Russian egg Salad, which is made from eggs, potatoes and Schmaltz (which I also make myself!) I must be crazy!
