The Department of Energy released its weekly report on the condition of petroleum inventories in the United States today.

Here are some highlights:

Crude oil inventories decreased by 5.3 million barrels to a total of 340.7 million barrels. At 340.7 million barrels, inventories are 13.1 million barrels above last year (4.0%) and remain above average. Supply at NYMEX delivery point, Cushing, Oklahoma rose 0.5 million barrels to 36.4 million barrels this week.

Gasoline inventories increased 2.4 million barrels to 217.2 million barrels. At 217.2 million barrels, inventories are now 0.8 million barrels, or 0.4% higher than last year (last week that number was 1.0% lower). Decreases were only seen on the West Coast...

And prices are rising why??????? This kind of news should be lowering prices not raising them!! But of course GREED rules the world and the market these days, there's no such thing as supply & demand anymore and there hasn't been in quite some time.

RENEGADEGAS

So what you are saying is that supplies are actually down and oil and gas are not artificially high. What a joke, and we were supposed to believe anything out of the last mess?

Of course decreases were seen on the west coast. We're all filthy rich and have gas guzzling SUVs and Hummers and Pick-up Trucks. Yee Haw!

Go Cushing! Pile up that oil! (Cushing probably has more value stockpiled in oil than Fort Knox in gold...)

despite drop in crude supplies, the stock is still SIGNIFICANTLY HIGHER than same time last year. With the INCREASE in gasoline supplies (also higher than last year at this time) the prices go up and Up and UP. Well, since supply and demand have no more meaning, it must be simple GREED AND SPECULATION. Well, just remember, I cannot but presents for Christmas with money I spent on gasoline. Sorry Mr. O' Bummer--unemployment will just have to increase more.

altima2008 - how do you get that it's designed to raise gas prices? It's just information - and the information actually would suggest *downward* pressure on gas prices. However, rising crude prices due to increased global demand are also a large part of the equation, irrespective of US inventories. Despite small decreases in week-over-week inventories, inventory levels continue to be higher than same period last year, and compared to historic levels.

If you don't care to read or understand articles, why comment on them?
