ProfDude Champion Author Illinois Posts:2,192 Points:445,800 Joined:Jan 2012	Message Posted: May 21, 2013 10:01:29 AM Ignore ProfDude Report Abuse Things I enjoy about my diesel sedan... performance - it is flat out an enjoyable car to drive, especially on the highway less expensive fuel - diesel is significantly cheaper than regular gasoline across much of northern Illinois and has been most of the time for the past 16 months higher mpg - averaging above 31 mpg in a mid-size luxury sedan is just awesome (30% higher than its gasoline counterpart) time and distance between fill-ups - I get 550-700 miles per tank, depending upon driving conditions, and this allows me to better shop for inexpensive fuel this is diesel sedan #4 for me and I would most certainly do it again.

The manufacturer's product manager definitely made a bad guess/forecast... or maybe they were trying to get their average MPG number up.

I drive 85 hiway miles each way to work with my 2012 Jetta 2.0 TDI Sportwagen and average 49mpg including city. Normally get over 600 miles to a tank. Shame that diesel fuel so much more expensive with easier refining process than gas.

Being retired, the new diesel cars are way too expensive for me now. Will have to keep my '99 Dodge Diesel P/U @ 21-22 mpg.

The diesel cars now are designed for diesil, unlike the junk that GM turned out in the 1970's, which were gasoline engine blocks. The GM diesel killed Olds. And GM's credibility was destroyed. http://www.autosavant.com/2009/08/11/the-cars-that-killed-gm-the-oldsmobile-diesel/ So, diesels make a lot of sense, and certainly get a lot more MPG, than gasoline and much more than E85. To burn E85, they need to design a turbo engine, much like a diesel.
